The resources on this page will help you begin your research on Afghanistan.  This is not meant to be a complete list of all resources available, but it will help get you started. 
1) Databases 

Databases are a great place to start your research.  They offer multimedia resources that have been carefully checked to make sure they come from reputable sources, and they are continually updated to include new information.

Britannica Middle School offers a great place to get background information on Afghanistan, including an overview of its history, geography, and basic statistics.

InfoTrac lets you search newspapers, magazines, and reference sources to find articles that relate to present-day Afghanistan.

Britannica World Data Analyst offers data, charts, and statistical information on Afghanistan.  You can view current information, or look at how data has changed over time through the chronological option.

Global Issues in Context has an entire section devoted to Afghanistan.  It pulls together scholarly articles, newspaper and magazine articles, videos, podcasts, photographs and more that relate to Afghanistan.  You can also explore related topics by looking at the "related portals" box on the left side of the screen. 

Poverty 

Although these resources are not specifically about Afghanistan, they will help you to understand the general factors that cause poverty.  Once you understand how these different factors cause poverty, you will be able to make connections to what makes Afghanistan a poor country.
